Joe Robertson, who has built more than 50 bars in Newcastle, Leeds, Cardiff and London, also conceived a number of exceptional concepts during the 80′s and 90′s. Each unit had its own conceptual approach and market segment.

The Long Bar

The Long Bar on Westgate Road, Newcastle, was formally immortalized in the movie Get Carter with Michael Caine.

The Long Bar was then situated in the Midland Hotel which occupied the triangular site of Neville Street, Grainger Street and Westgate Road. During the late 70’s these premises were demolished and a new office block erected with offices, shops and a basement bar.

Within this curtledge there remained an area of land undeveloped on Westgate Road and in partnership with the City of Newcastle, who provided a section of public paving, this empty site was developed by Joe Robertson into the new Newcastle landmark The Long Bar.

The public house is entirely glazed onto the street and internally carries the obvious feature of a long bar.
